What are triple chocolate chip cookies?

Triple chocolate chip cookies are the next level up from double chocolate chip cookies. These bad boys are made with chocolate cake mix and three different chocolate chips: white, semi-sweet, and dark. One could argue that these may even be quadruple chocolate but that’s up for you to decide! No matter what you call them, these cookies are INSANELY good and INSANELY easy. So soft, chewy, fluffy, and bursting with chocolate. They’re a yes in every way!

Ingredients

  • chocolate cake mix (I used a chocolate fudge flavour and it worked amazingly)
  • eggs
  • oil
  • vanilla
  • salt
  • white chocolate chips
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • dark chocolate chips

How to make triple chocolate chip cookies

Make the dough

These ultimate triple chocolate chip cookies are the perfect recipe staple because everything can be done right in one bowl and they come together so fast! Start by adding the cake mix, eggs, oil, vanilla, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Next, gently mix until everything is just combined. Then, add in all your chocolate chips and gently mix again. You want to make sure that everything is well incorporated but you want to make sure you don’t overmix your cookie dough. And just like that, your dough is already done!

Scoop your cookies

The next step is to scoop the dough out into balls. There are two ways you could do this. You could scoop all the dough out and let it chill so that it’s easy to work with when transferring. Or, you could scoop the dough onto the pan as you’re baking the cookies. So only scooping out what you need right before it goes into the oven. This is probably the most efficient option that I didn’t think of until after I made mine LOL.

If you’d like to scoop out all the dough first, use a cookie scoop or spoon to scoop your dough balls onto a lined baking sheet. Once all the dough has been scooped, let the dough chill for around 30 minutes to make it a little easier to work with. Chilling is not imperative but it does help reduce the stickiness a little bit. If you’d like to scoop as you go, scoop your dough balls out and place them around 2 inches apart on a lined baking sheet. Make sure to leave enough room for your triple chocolate chip cookies to spread.

Time to bake

Then, put the cookies in the oven when it hits 350℉ and bake for 8-10 minutes. They should puff up a little bit and be firm at the edges and more soft in the middle. Since the base of the cookies is chocolate, you can’t use being golden brown as an indicator for doneness. But, you will be able to see that they’ve set up after 8 or 9 minutes. Just be careful not to overcook them!

Can I customize?

Absolutely! You can use any chocolate cake mix that you have or that is available to you. And you can use any kind of chocolate you like! There are so many fun chocolate chip options out there now you can choose literally any and use them in this recipe. Alternatively, you could use chocolate chunks instead of chips. Take your favourite chocolate bars and chop them up to add to your dough. I would love to know what types of chocolate you’d use in your recipe, leave me a comment and let me know! There are so many different ways you could go with this recipe, the possibilities are endless. Let your chocolate loving heart run wild!

How to store triple chocolate chip cookies

You can store your cookies after they’ve been baked at room temperature in an airtight bag or container for up to 5-7 days. If you know that you have more cookies than you’ll be able to eat, you can store the rest of the baked cookies in a freezer safe bag or container in the freezer for up to 3 months. If you don’t want to bake all of your cookies, you can freeze the raw dough. Place the dough balls into a freezer safe bag or container and you can keep them in the freezer for around 3-6 months. When you’re ready to bake them, just take as many as you’d like out of the freezer and let thaw to room temperature. Then, you’re ready to bake them exactly as you would fresh! Triple chocolate chip cookies on demand whenever you’d like!
