What are Oreo Rice Krispie treats?

Oreo Rice Krispie treats are exactly what they sound like, homemade Rice Krispie treats with Oreos in them! This version is just another delicious way to enjoy your favourite classic cereal treats. It’s the same chewy and gooey square we all know and love with the addition of the classic cookie we all know and love. You could also call them cookies and cream Rice Krispie treats. These things are GOOD! So simple, yet so delicious.

Ingredients

All you’ll need for your Oreo marshmallow treats are:

  • butter
  • marshmallows
  • Rice Krispies cereal
  • Oreos

How to make Oreo Rice Krispie treats

Prep time

The best way to set yourself up for success when making cereal treats is to prep well. You want to have everything set up and ready before you start the process because the marshmallow tends to set pretty fast and you don’t have a whole lot of time to get the job done. I highly recommend starting with greasing your 9”x13” pan generously with butter. Keep that pan in a place that’s close to your stove so you can transfer right away. I also recommend greasing your silicone spatula with butter as well, this makes it extra easy to mix everything.

Measure out both your Oreos and Rice Krispies cereal. Chop the Oreos as much or little as you prefer. I personally like them to be pretty roughly chopped with the addition of some crumbs thrown in there too. You can combine these two together beforehand if you’d like but it’s not necessary. When all your prep has been done it’s time to move to the stove.

Melting and mixing

Grab a large saucepan and begin to melt your butter over low-medium heat. I like to use a pan that’s a little bigger than what I think I need so there’s extra room to mix. This makes things a lot easier as well. After the butter has been melted, add the marshmallows and stir until they’re all completely melted. Mini marshmallows will take less time to melt than the big ones but you can absolutely use either. When this is done, remove the pan from the heat.

Next, working quickly, add your cereal and chopped Oreos and mix until everything is evenly coated and the cookies have been distributed well. Pour the mixture into your prepared pan and press down until the Oreo Rice Krispie treats are spread out and as flat as possible. If you’d like, you can take a piece of wax paper and place it on top of the mixture in the pan. Then, you can use your hands to flatten everything evenly. You can also add some extra chopped Oreos to the top if you’d like here.

Let them set

The last step is to allow your Oreo Rice Krispie treats to set. If you need to speed up the process you can pop them in the fridge for 10-15 minutes. Otherwise, you can leave them out at room temperature until the marshmallow sets completely. Once everything has set you can cut them into squares and enjoy! I promise you will be coming back for more of these bad boys.

How to store

Your Oreo Rice Krispie treats can stay at room temperature for up to a week. Just keep them in an airtight bag or container and they’re good to go! If you’d like to keep them longer, they actually freeze really well. You can wrap them up in some wax paper and then put them into a freezer safe bag or container. Then, you can keep them frozen for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to have them again, take them out and allow them to come down to room temperature. I promise they’re just as good!
