How to Become a New Person

Here’s how to become a new person…you have to start acting like that person. The only way to create a new version of ourselves is to step into that version every single day as much as possible. The more we practice it, the more it will become normal to us. And one day we’ll just be an entirely new person.

Who do you want to be?

So for example, let’s say you wanted to be someone who put themselves first and isn’t a people pleaser (which, hello recovering people pleaser here, I get it). To do that, you have to know what that person would do and start doing it. The easiest way to do this is to create a character of that next level version of yourself and start doing exactly as they would do. Creating a character makes it easier for us to embody this new person because it feels like we’re playing a role instead of changing ourselves. This takes the pressure off and can even make it fun!

If this person that puts themselves first would say no to something she doesn’t really want to do, you have to do that. If she plans to stay home and watch a movie by herself on a Thursday night but gets invited out by a coworker she doesn’t really feel aligned with, what does she do? She says “sorry, I have plans tonight”, or whatever your version of that looks like.

A new money character

For me, the biggest thing has always been money. There were a lot of changes I had to make to become the next level version of myself with money. And this is still ongoing for me, we can constantly strive towards new levels in any area of life! First off it was eliminating the things from my vocabulary that were most definitely not serving me. Things like “I can’t afford that”, “that’s too expensive”, “I’m broke”…you get the picture.

“I’m broke” was the biggest one. Before I actually dove head first into my self healing journey I had an intuitive realization that saying those words did not benefit me in any way, shape, or form. And I cut them out. It takes time and practice to break a habit and step into a new one but you are beyond capable of doing it. I replaced those phrases with “I’m being picky with my investments right now”, “that’s not a priority for me”, and “I am abundant”.

Other behaviors my next level money character embodied were seeing things I purchased as receiving something of value instead of “losing” money. Buying things freely while shopping (within reason of course). And feeling joy while spending money. You can do this with absolutely anything.

How to make your own next level character

What does this person spend their time doing? What do they say yes to? Say no to? How do they act in difficult situations? What is their motto? Make a list of the things you want your next level character to be, have, feel, and do, and start embodying those every day. Name them if you want, whatever will help you step into this new person. It will be challenging at first but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Decorate it, make it look pretty and hang it somewhere you can read it every day.

These exercises are the foundation of making big life changes. And that’s how to become a new person. All the power is in your hands, you can do it! What is your character like? Leave me a comment and let me know!
