What are dulce de leche brownies

Dulce de leche brownies are a classic chewy brownie made with dulce de leche in the batter. They’re also completely eggless! Since the dulce de leche is such a big part of the recipe, the flavour really comes through and creates a deep and delicious combination of chocolate and caramel flavours. They get even chewier as time goes on and are the perfect leveled up version of a classic brownie.

If you love the idea of an easy eggless brownie, you have to try these condensed milk brownies too! They’re the same concept just with condensed milk instead of dulce de leche. I could not recommend them more!

  • butter

How to make dulce de leche brownies

Dulce de leche + butter + chocolate

It’s super duper easy to make these delicious dulce de leche brownies, so let’s get into it! Start by adding your dulce de leche and butter to a medium saucepan and begin to melt over medium low heat. To speed up the process, you can cut your butter into smaller pieces before adding it to the saucepan. Stir these often while the two are melting and combing and remove from the heat when everything is completely melted. Next, add the chopped chocolate to the melted butter mixture and stir until the chocolate has also melted and all is completely combined. Set this mixture aside for a minute and grab a medium to large sized mixing bowl.

The batter comes together

To your bowl add both of the sugars and the vanilla extract. Add the butter, dulce de leche, and chocolate mixture and mix well with the sugars and vanilla. After that, add all of the remaining dry ingredients (cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt) and gently mix with a silicone spatula. You’re looking for the batter to be just combined so that you do not overmix it. When that’s done, preheat the oven to 325℉ and grease and line an 8”x8” baking pan. Pour your brownie batter into the pan and spread it out evenly if necessary.

Time to bake

Once the oven has come to temperature, bake your dulce de leche brownies for 30-35 minutes until the brownies have firmed up in the middle and are well baked on the outside. The biggest thing to look out for is if the centre looks loose or wet, if it is, the brownies need more time. When the brownies have fully baked, take them out and allow them to cool for at least 20-30 minutes before cutting into squares. This gives them time to complete the baking process and will make them easier to cut as well.

If you’d like, you can add some extra dulce de leche on top for some extra caramel flavour! Cut your dulce de leche brownies into as many squares as you’d like and get ready for your new favourite dessert!

How to store

You can store these dulce de leche brownies at room temperature in an airtight bag or container. They will keep well for up to 7 days. The really cool thing about these brownies is they stay extra chewy and even get a little chewier as time passes. You can also keep them frozen in a freezer safe bag or container. They will keep well for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to have them again, just take as many as you’d like out of the freezer and allow them to thaw to room temperature. You can also pop them in the microwave for around 30 seconds to get that super fresh feel!
