What are condensed milk brownies

Condensed milk brownies are everything amazing about regular brownies but with the addition of sweetened condensed milk. These are homemade brownies with sweetened condensed milk and cocoa in them along with chocolate and the other standard brownie ingredients. The condensed milk eliminates the need for eggs which makes this recipe completely eggless! These brownies are fudgy and chocolatey and everything you’d expect from any type of brownie. It only takes a few steps for the bad boys to come together and they are so freaking good! A classic made a little bit differently.

What does condensed milk do in brownies?

Condensed milk adds tenderness, moisture, and a little bit of extra creamy flavour to our brownies. The consistency is very similar to eggs which is why we can make these condensed milk brownies eggless. And it works some kind of magic because with the more time that passes, the chewier and softer they become. I honestly prefer them the next day over fresh out of the oven! So if you’re like me and you like your brownies extra chewy, make these a day before you want to eat them and prepare to be in soft, chewy, fudgy brownie heaven!

  • unsalted butter
  • light brown sugar

  • salt

How to make condensed milk brownies

Wet ingredients

The first step in making these easy condensed milk brownies is to melt the butter and sweetened condensed milk together. Take a medium to smaller sized saucepan or pot and add the butter and condensed milk. Melt on the stovetop over medium-low heat making sure to stir frequently. You don’t have to stir the entire time it’s on the stove but I definitely wouldn’t walk away from it. When everything is completely melted, remove from the heat. Next, add your chocolate to the pot and mix again until fully melted. I chopped up a chocolate bar for this step, you could definitely just break your bar into rough pieces.

Then, grab a medium to large sized mixing bowl and add both your sugars and vanilla. Take the butter/condensed milk/chocolate mixture and add it to the bowl with the sugar and vanilla. Mix well, making sure that the sugar gets fully incorporated and none gets stuck to the bottom or sides of your bowl.

Dry ingredients

Then, add your dry ingredients – cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. I find that cocoa powder gets really clumpy so I like to sift mine before adding it to get rid of any of those clumps. Mix very gently with a silicone spatula and be sure not to overmix, we want everything to be just combined.

Baking

Preheat your oven to 325℉ and prepare your pan while it comes to temperature. Grease an 8”x8” pan with butter and then line it with parchment paper. You could also use a 9”x9” pan here, or even a  9”x13”. If you’re using a 9”x13” though, your brownies won’t be as thick. Add your brownie batter to your pan and even it out if you need to. Once the oven is ready, put your brownies in and bake for 30-35 minutes.

You’re looking for the brownies to be firm and sturdy but they will still be soft and slightly wet in the middle. The outsides should be well baked. If you’re using a toothpick to check doneness, it’s okay for it to be a little wet. We just don’t want the batter to be loose, so if you shake the pan and it jiggles, your condensed milk brownies are not done yet.

Allow ample time for the brownies to cool when you take them out of the oven. This will allow them to fully set up and complete their baking process. It also makes them a lot easier to cut into. Then, you can cut the brownies into 9 or 16 squares and enjoy your delicious condensed milk brownies!

How to store

You can store these condensed milk brownies just like you would any other brownies. If you know you’ll eat all of them within the next week or so, you can keep them in an airtight container or bag at room temperature. They will be good for around 1 week this way. If you’d like to keep them for any longer you can wrap them up with wax paper and keep them in a freezer safe bag or container and freeze them. They can stay in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to eat, just take them out of the freezer and let them thaw to room temperature. If you want to get really crazy you could even microwave them for a fresh out of the oven feel!
