What is Christmas puppy chow

Christmas puppy chow is a slightly different version of the traditional puppy chow. The classic version is made up of Chex cereal, peanut butter, chocolate, and powdered sugar. This version uses cookie butter instead for that extra warm flavour that is so reminiscent of the holiday season. We also added some Christmas themed sprinkles for a little extra fun.

Ingredients

  • rice or corn Chex cereal
  • cookie butter
  • powdered sugar
  • chocolate chips
  • Christmas sprinkles

How to make Christmas puppy chow

Let’s get into how to make this Christmas puppy chow. First you’ll want to find or make your cookie butter. Lotus makes a very popular one that you can most definitely use if it is available to you. I wasn’t able to find any in my area so I ended up making my own. You can choose your favourite recipe and make your own cookie butter before you start the rest of the recipe.

Next, get yourself an extra large bowl to add your cereal into and pour your cookie butter over the top. The homemade version I had was already quite runny so it worked out perfectly. If you’re using store bought it’s possible that it’s a little thick and might need to be thinned out before pouring. You can do this by melting it or you may have to use a little coconut oil or something similar to get it to a pourable consistency. You’ll also want to use the biggest bowl you can find because it makes it so much easier to mix and get all the cereal fully covered. Mix your cereal and cookie butter to the best of your ability so that all the cereal is well covered.

After that, carefully add your cookie butter covered cereal to a sealable bag and add the powdered sugar on top. Start with the 1½ cups and add more later if you would like to. Here comes the fun part, seal and shake the bag until all the powdered sugar has covered and coated the cereal. Then, you can add the chocolate chips and sprinkles and shake again until those are distributed as evenly as possible. And now you have yourself some yummy Christmas puppy chow!

How to store Christmas puppy chow

To store your Christmas puppy chow, just throw it into an airtight container or you can put it back into the bag you used to mix it. You can store it at room temperature well for around 1-2 weeks. You can make this delicious treat ahead of time and bring it to any holiday party you have coming up, or even just enjoy it for yourself!
