What are caramel apple nachos?

Caramel apple nachos are the cuter and easier version of the traditional caramel apple. Sliced apple pieces laid on a plate with the caramel of your choice drizzled on top and toppings galore. The best part is that you can make them exactly how you like them! You can use traditional toppings like chocolate, nuts, coconut, or sprinkles. Or you can try less common ones like pretzels, crushed cookies, cereal, or any sweet thing you enjoy and can cut into tiny pieces. They’re perfect for your next festive get together. You can make them for just yourself, a whole party, and everything in between!

Ingredients

  • apples (of course!)

The star of the show, I highly recommend getting yours from a local farm if you can, I picked some this year and absolutely loved the experience. Plus they’re unbelievably delicious!

  • caramel

You can choose your level of difficulty here. I personally prefer to use a premade kind, dulce de leche is easy to find and tastes delicious. If you prefer traditional caramel you most definitely can use that. Or if you’re savvy in this department you can make your own too!

  • toppings

Go absolutely wild here! Literally any sweet thing you think would taste good with apples, go ahead and add it! Here is what I used:

  • graham cracker crumbs
  • peanuts
  • pretzels
  • Rice Krispies
  • corn flakes
  • mini M&M’s
  • chocolate chips

Other options I highly recommend:

  • chopped or crushed oreos
  • popcorn
  • mini marshmallows or marshmallow fluff
  • Reese’s cups
  • Nutella
  • whipped cream

How to make caramel apple nachos

Cutting and Chopping

Making your own caramel apple nachos is incredibly easy, especially if you’re getting everything premade. Start by chopping and prepping any toppings you have. Ideally you’ll want your toppings to be chopped or in small pieces so that you can get a little bit of everything in each bite. When those are all ready you can set them aside.

Next, cut up as many apples as you’ll need – I’d say give or take one apple per person you’re serving. If you’re serving a large group you can use baking pans and make your caramel apple nachos on there. That way you can just load them up and serve them in the same pan. I like to slice my apples into around ¼” slices. You can do wedges or chunks if you prefer, or any type of way you want. The only thing that will make them different is how you’ll be eating them, either with your fingers or a utensil of some kind.

Lay out the apples

Arrange your apples onto your desired dish. You can use absolutely anything here and arrange the apples any way you’d like. If you’re looking for taste over everything else, lay your apples so that they’re not overlapping if possible. This ensures that all of the apples will be covered in caramel-y goodness and as many toppings as can fit. Then, get your caramel topping ready. If you’re using store bought, all you have to do here is open up your container, easy peasy. If you’ve chosen to make your own fresh I recommend doing that at least the day before so it’s ready for you to use here.

Time for caramel and toppings

Liberally drizzle your caramel or dulce de leche over all of your apples, measure with your heart here. After that, all that’s left to do is add your toppings. Bring out your inner Picasso and get as creative as you’d like. You really can’t do this part wrong because you’re just adding all the toppings to your apples. Add as much or little of each thing as you would like, do layers, try different things in different sections, all the choices are completely yours. If you’re a maximalist type of person, you may want to spread all of your toppings out evenly across all your apples to the best of your ability. This way you can have as many toppings as possible in one bite.

And that’s really all you need to do to make yourself some caramel apple nachos!

Can you store caramel apple nachos?

Caramel apple nachos are one of those desserts that are definitely best when consumed the day you made them, especially right after. You can store them in the refrigerator for a day or two but the apples will start to lose their crunch and the toppings may get soggy as well depending on what you’re using. I also found that when I put mine in the fridge they became very watery as time passed. I believe that this is from the juice in the apples seeping out over time.

So I personally highly recommend having these babies as soon as you make them. If you’d like to make them for a party, try to assemble them as close to consumption as possible. You can also add a little bit of lemon juice onto your apples if you need to cut them beforehand so that they don’t turn brown. And then you can add everything else right before serving!
